About us
Welcome to LivingLutheran.com
Grab a cup of coffee, pull up a chair and join us at the table for a conversation about what it means to “live Lutheran.”
LivingLutheran.com serves up a daily blend of culture, conversation and community for ELCA members and friends. We’re looking for answers about what it all means and hope you’ll stop by to put in your two cents.
You won’t find breaking news here, although there’s plenty of commentary on what’s happening in the world and what ELCA members think about it. We have resources for congregations, videos to inspire and amuse and places to share what’s on your mind.
We’re probably being a bit presumptuous, but we like to think that Martin Luther would approve.
Who is the ELCA?
The ELCA stands for the full name of our denomination: Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
We’re ready to take back the word “evangelical” after it’s been co-opted for so many years. Being evangelical is the unifying call we all share as baptized people of Christ.
We want ELCA members to see themselves as “everyday evangelists” who bring the gospel message with them wherever we go. Sheds a whole new light on how you spend your day, doesn’t it?
Read more about the ELCA and the rich history of Lutherans in North America. We may not have come over on the Mayflower, but we’ve been here a long time.
Who are Lutherans?
The ELCA, along with other Lutheran churches, can trace its roots directly to the teachings of Martin Luther, a 16th century German friar.
He was a bit of a rabble rouser who inadvertently caused a religious and cultural revolution with the public airing of his 95 theses.
Luther’s life and teachings make pretty good reading.
