What's an act of faith that surprised you?

On March 25 we commemorate the annunciation of Mary. Mary has one of the best speaking parts in the biblical narrative: “My soul proclaims your greatness…”

Her response to the angel was an act of faith that has been celebrated in Christian tradition — and it seems like it may surprise even Mary.

What’s an act of faith that surprised you? Whether it was your own act, or an act by another person that you witnessed, what did you learn from that experience?

In my first call in 1995, I watched as the people of Living Christ Lutheran Church, Loves Park, Illinois voted to change their name of their church, disband summer worship and support me as their pastor to go and knock on doors all summer. It took courage, faith and hope to make such decisions. From death, new life emerged. That's how Christ Lutheran, Belvidere, Illinois was born.
