May I share two?

1. 1976: It was the Bicentennial. I had just graduated from high school and was headed to college in the fall. Vietnam was over but the Cold War went on. A new president was to be elected that year. SNL and Peter Frampton were all the rage. All things seemed so hopeful...

2. 1991: The ELCA National Gathering was in Dallas, TX. I was there as a youth advisor. Temperatures went up to 104 degrees. Jay Beech, Maya Angelou, John Ylvisaker, and Tony Compollo were there. Went to lunch at the Kennedy Assasination Memorial. The band Cheap Trick did an impromptu concert at the Plaza. Just twenty years ago? Seems like a lifetime. Was it all really so simple then...
