Have you lived in another country?

If home is where you hang your hat, have you had a chance to hang yours outside the U.S.?

Living in a different culture for an extended time, even if it’s a similar one to ours like Canada, can create a new perspective on your native land.

If you’ve lived, or are living, in another country, how has it affected, either positively or negatively, the view you have of life in the U.S.?

I lived in Germany and just got back about a month ago. For the first several weeks in Germany, I was in awe of the amazing benefits of German residence, and found much fault with the American government. After I stayed for a few months, I started to see the shortcomings as well. It was a classic "the grass is always greener" experience.

What I also learned was that the same problems plague the whole world. There is hunger, homelessness, poverty, social injustice, and religious persecution everywhere. It was almost a sense of peace to realize that Germany and the European Union haven't found solutions to the problems either.
