Joan Church

My congregation: Saint Stephen Lutheran Church, Antioch, Ill.

My favorite disciple: Thomas.

My favorite person in the Bible: Mary.

My favorite Christmas carol: “Once in Royal David’s City.”

My favorite potluck dish: salads — almost any kind.

I prefer to sit here during worship: about in the middle on either side.

My perfect day: is one spent with friends.

People would be surprised to know that: I was a skinny, shy kid.

The hymn I want played at my funeral: any, and all, the “river” hymns.

The best thing I learned in Sunday school: Jesus loves me.

My favorite volunteer project: any short-term thing our congregation does.

The ministry I’m most passionate about: touching the community.

I feel most Lutheran when: I’m at either the synod or churchwide assembly.

What “living Lutheran” means to me: the priesthood of all believers — that I can live it out in daily life.

I’m doing God’s work with my hands when: I show compassion to someone who is in need or who is less fortunate.
