Does your congregation reap the benefits of storytelling?

Biblical storytelling stems from an original oral tradition. It brings the Bible’s stories to life and can lead to deeper understanding, says storyteller Joan New.

Has your congregation been able to explore this tradition? If so, do you have advice for congregations that would like to?

For years, I've been telling the weekly Gospel lesson as a story. I do it from the floor of the sanctuary while everyone remains seated. Few could see me if they stood for it. The consistent response has been, "I hear it so much different when you tell it like a story than when it is read from the Book."
