Werner Elert's The Christian Ethos.

Bonhoeffer's Ethics and Forde's Theology is for Proclamation were also great reads.

Fredrick Buechner - Wishful Thinking and anything by Wm Sloane Coffin, especially, The Heart is a little to the left & Passion for the Possible. Dan Erlander - Manna and Mercy - the best description of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation ever.
