In 1941, you didn’t need to have a loved one in Hawaii to feel the effects of the attack on the U.S. fleet. How did that historic event change the course of the lives of those in your family? How are the changes still being felt today?

I lost one uncle I never knew at Normandy. I lost another uncle I did know in a bottle. He fought in the Pacific theater and when asked would only say, “war is hell and I don’t want to talk about it.” Our family never talked about it.
