My vocation (or calling in life): husband, father, pastor, friend, son, runner, writer, reader, reformer, camp guy.

My congregation: St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, New Canaan, Conn.

My favorite hymn: “Built on a Rock.”

My favorite person in the Bible: Jonah.

My favorite Bible verse: Hebrews 12:1-2, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.”

My favorite potluck dish: sausages.

My favorite junk food: pretzels and French onion dip.

What’s playing on my iPod right now: OK GO.

My perfect day: would provide an opportunity to eat sausages on a bun with a cold beverage among friends.

Someone who inspires me: William S. Carter, pastor at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Avon, Conn.

Lutherans could do better at: answering questions. When we answer a question, we don’t really answer it but talk and talk and talk and never really get to the point, you know?

My favorite volunteer project: reading at my kids’ school.

I feel most Lutheran when: singing hymns.

What “living Lutheran” means to me: being merciful when religiosity says otherwise.

I’m doing God’s work with my hands when: I’m teaching my kids.
