Laura Geczy

My vocation (or calling in life): counseling.

My congregation: Salem Lutheran Church, Stillwater, Okla.

My favorite hymn: “How Great Thou Art.”

My favorite person in the Bible: Jesus.

My favorite Christmas carol: “What Child Is This?”

My favorite potluck dish: spicy macaroni and cheese.

My favorite junk food: chocolate!

I like my coffee: very frilly, with cream, sugar and flavoring.

People would be surprised to know that: I’m really not as reserved as I appear to be at first glance.

Lutherans are great at: the liturgy!

I was most proud of my congregation when: we decided to honor our commitment to openness and allowed openly gay people to become pastors.

The ministry I’m most passionate about: cooking for those who have just been released from the hospital or who have just experienced a loss.

I feel most Lutheran when: I talk to Baptists.

What “living Lutheran” means to me: openness, compassion and love.

I’m doing God’s work with my hands when: I play handbells.
