Do you have an extended family under your roof?

For some, it’s elderly members and, more and more we’re told, it may include young adults who have had to move back home or have never left. If this sounds like your home, what are the benefits for all involved? Has the sense of “family” become stronger? What are the negatives? Has your home become a little too small and a little less private?

The family under our roof includes my wife and I (ages not to be disclosed), our son in his mid-twenties. and our daughter, a college student who is home every weekend and summers, plus two cats. Sure, a little more privacy now and then would be nice, but I think I can honestly say that I am enjoying family life now as much as ever. Our son just got his Masters and our daughter is a junior in collge. I've always said the goal of parenting is to make children independent, i.e., "to make it so you don't need me any more." While waiting for their careers and education to develop. I'll enjoy the chaos and banter.
