My vocation (or calling in life): share God’s word effectively and become a pastor.

My congregation: Bethany Lutheran Church, Rice Lake, Wis.

I’ve been an ELCA Lutheran since: 2007.

My favorite hymn: “Were You There?”

My favorite Bible verse: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”

My favorite potluck dish: green bean casserole.

My favorite junk food: Milk Duds.

Someone who inspires me: My husband — he encourages me daily in faith, life and love.

People would be surprised to know that: I used to be a party animal.

I was most proud of my congregation when: I realized the time, talents and funds invested in educating our youth.

I was most frustrated with my congregation when: I tried to get a feasibility study going to determine the need for a Lutheran elementary school, but I didn’t get a lick of feedback.

The ministry I’m most passionate about: I feel most passionate about personal Bible study because I thirst for the knowledge to be an effective evangelist.

I feel most Lutheran when: I pray sincerely.

What “living Lutheran” means to me: living Christian according to God’s word and sharing God’s love and wisdom with others.

I’m doing God’s work with my hands when: I make a baptismal quilt for the church, teach at church and help with different community outreach programs.

Jody, I want to express my appreciation of your 'When Grace Becomes Grit' review. Something about the word 'grace' that activates a Lutheran.

Although what we take away from the story is different in many ways, we do see the same themes at work and I see our reviews as companion reflections.
