Julia Seymour

My vocation (or calling in life): pastor.

My congregation: Lutheran Church of Hope, Anchorage, Alaska.

My favorite hymn: “My Life Flows on in Endless Song.”

My favorite Bible verse: Romans 8:38-39, “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

My favorite potluck dish: Jello salad! (yum!).

My favorite movie: “Little Miss Sunshine.”

My perfect day: involves hiking, reading and time with family.

Someone who inspires me: people who survive the death of a child.

People would be surprised to know that: I wish I could dance.

The best thing I learned in Sunday school: God is still speaking.

Lutherans could do better at: welcoming, trying new things and sharing the joy of the gospel.

I was most proud of my congregation when: I heard how welcomed someone felt when visiting.

I was most frustrated with my congregation when: I heard how unwelcomed someone felt after visiting.

What “living Lutheran” means to me: daily attempting to express the grace that makes my living possible.

I’m doing God’s work with my hands when: I visit people.
