Like Jesus on Maundy Thursday, how has turning to God helped when facing an ordeal?

Jesus knew all too well what the coming days would mean and how they would end. In our own ways we too face periods of trial. How has putting yourself in God’s hands helped you at such times?

I recall the very first time I had surgery. It was when I was 35 years old. I silently prayed "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom" and "Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a poor sinner" from my hospital room to the OR. You could call that "turning to God" I suppose. The anesthiologist introduced herself, and I said, "I've never had surgery before and I'm a little anxious." She said, "We'll take care of that right now," and the next thing I remember is waking up in the Recovery Room. The nurses there said I was praying those same prayers outloud as before I awoke. That sacred them a little, I think. I don't consciously remember praying out loud. God was with me in a special way then; the Holy Spirit, I believe, was praying for me, with me, and through me. I thank God for my recovery.
