How has the death of a loved one strengthened your faith in God?

The grief over the loss can overshadow it at the time, but has a death left you feeling more secure in your faith? If so, what was it about the person and his or her passing that inspired you?

I was raised in a small, rural Lutheran Church, but went other directions after leaving home. I went to other churchs where there were more contemporary worship services which I enjoy. I never found a church that felt like home.

My 78 year old mother passed away in March of this year after complications from surgery. She was in bad health and the doctors told us that there was a very good chance that she wouldn't survive the surgery. Oh, how I wish they were wrong.

She was raised Lutheran which continued until her passing. I went to church with her and Dad the last time she went to a Sunday service. I surprised her and she was so happy to see me at church that she started crying, which caused me to cry as well. I'm so much like my mother which makes me smile as I write this comment.

My sister and I have been attending church with my Dad since her passing. I have been praying for comfort for myself and my family during this mourning period. It has been very difficult and I miss my mother terribly, but lately I have been feeling the comfort that God has provided. I can feel Him change my heart and have been spending time each day in His Word and praying more. I have been brought home to my faith. I just wish that I would have found my faith again before my mother passed away, but I'm trying to live my life now as my mother would want.

I love you Mom!
