Ascension Lutheran church in Columbus Ohio helps the needy during the growing season by providing free vegetables and fruits grown in their Good Samaritan Garden. We converted an acre of useless lawn into a productive garden using some new techniques for urban gardening. You may learn about these techniques at www.technologyforthepoor.com Our garden also provides spaces for refugees from Bhutan who grow their favorite greens. Good Samaritan garden was awarded "2012 Garden of the year" by the Franklin Park Conservatory this year. It is our hope that many churches can create container and vertical gardens to teach the low income people how to grow their vegetables in limited spaces.
