Kristina Diaz
How do you decide what to do with your life when there’s so much you enjoy? That’s been the challenge and the opportunity of God’s call for Kristina Diaz.
With a bachelor’s degree in TV production and an associate’s degree in graphic design already under her belt, Kristina wondered what might be next.
A friend told her about young adult volunteer opportunities with the ELCA and Kristina was intrigued. She’d worked in a variety of Latino ministries while growing up in Puerto Rico.
That is how Kristina decided to spend a year in La Plata, Argentina, exploring new pathways for growth in leadership, service, spirituality and global awareness.
She sat cross-legged with small children, sharing paper, paint and creativity through art projects of her own design. She supervised students at a residential program and plunged into God’s word with them through Bible study. She worked with children scarred by abusive parenting, who didn’t know how to relate to others without doing violence themselves.
Most significant, Kristina learned about herself and the gifts God had given her.
Kristina finds her passions are useful guides for where God is inviting her next. She experiments with book binding and photography. She wants to be a voice for justice through her writing and her storytelling. And she is confident this is only the beginning of her discernment journey.
Kristina reflects, “God has called me in many ways. But it’s been a process of discovering who I am in order to understand what God has called me to do.”
Of one thing she is certain: God’s mission for her will never be narrowly defined. It will grow and evolve right along with her; it will always be a perfect reflection of her many gifts and talents.
