Bishop Burnside,
God Bless you and thank you. Eloquently said but oh so true. I, too, have been bullied when I was younger and unfortunately, recently by a Lutheran pastor. With the latter, I am so thankful for those who stood by me to let me know I was not alone - that this pastor had done it before and that what I was experiencing was because of his insecurities. We need to address bullying in childhood because the bullies do grow up and some continue that wrongful behavior as adults. Thank you again for speaking up.
@ Prophetess22: Sorry to hear about your experience with an adult bully. The British have done some very interesting studies on adult bullies. I found some great articles in respected journals from there by Googling "adult bullies."
Thank you for adding your testimony to the echos of so many who have been beaten up over the years. Also for your encouragement to all of us to pay attention and stand ready to be at the side of those who need us.
We are getting better as we share the heartaches of the past and the opportunities to help in the future.

Thank you, Bishop Burnside, for reaching into the lives of so many of us from teenagers through older adults. It is good to hear your words as well as your comments to those who post due to life experiences. I wonder how researchers differentiate 'bullying adults' from folks I might refer to as harrasers - or, are they more alike than different?
Again, thanks.
Dear Bishop Burnside,
Thank you for offering such a compassionate and hopeful witness to those in our churches and communities who encounter bullying--be they youngsters, teenagers or adults. Your words were beautifully accessible to the whole range of hurting people, and inspiring to those of us who might feel intimidated to act on their behalf. I pray your words will reach a wide audience. Thanks again.
